Welcome!
Cornerstone Family Counseling has served the Manhattan Kansas community for over twenty-nine years!

Our History
Cornerstone was founded in 1985 by Judd Swihart. We are a non-profit and non-subsidized organization which seeks to provide services while covering all of our operating cost.

Our Mission
Cornerstone Family Counseling exists to heal the brokenhearted through therapy, support and genuine care using effective clinical practices grounded in a solid Christian faith.

While we are trained and open to discussions of faith, it is always the client's decision whether this is incorporated in their treatment process.

Therapy Services

Individual Therapy
A good beginning toward ending emotional distress. Interpersonal and intrapersonal conflicts are frequently aided by this method. We offer a variety of approaches including cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness and acceptance-based, psychodynamic, faith-based counseling and several other approaches.

Family Therapy
An approach found most successful in the treatment of alcoholism, divorce, and other family conflicts. Family therapy may involve all family members or those essential to address the problem.

Couples Therapy
May be considered in situations of recurring marital conflicts, long periods of silence as a means of avoiding conflicts, sexual conflicts, conflicts regarding management of the home or its finances. Couples therapy is not normally covered by most insurance plans.

Substance Abuse Treatment
Outpatient individual and group therapy providing treatment to men and women with addictions and co-occurring disorders. Our treatment uses a bio-psycho-social-spiritual framework to empower clients to reach their goal of recovery.

Professional Presentations
Several of our providers offer a variety of different seminars on relevant topics such as ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, Bullying, Memory Loss,  & Classroom Behavioral Management.

Testing Services

Psychological Testing

Designed to assess patterns of personality and  psychological disorders. The final report provides a wide range of information, which can be useful in gaining insight into a person’s psychological functioning.

Neuropsychological Testing
Performed to  diagnose a brain disorder or disease. For example, people who have suffered a traumatic brain injury or stroke, or are exhibiting signs of dementia, such as Alzheimer’s disease, are given standardized neuropsychological tests.

Intellectual Testing
Assess cognitive and intellectual abilities. For children, academic achievement and intelligence testing, may be used to determine the presence of a learning disability or identifying giftedness. These tests can be helpful for adults to determine vocational ability (e.g., in career counseling) or assess adult intellectual ability.
