If I believed

If I believed…what would I be doing right now?
We enrolled our sons in swimming lessons when they were pre-school age. We were farming with Don’s folks and there was a pond in the pasture. It seemed important for the boys to know something about swimming. One swimming lesson day I could not find the car keys. I began to search the entire house with no results. My search became frantic, but still no results, time was passing. In the midst of my search, I heard the “Still Small Voice” whisper – “If you believed you were going swimming today, what would you be doing right now?” I quickly answered, “Getting us ready to go, of course.” There was a knowing silence as if to say –“…and why are you not getting ready?”

So, I began to get us ready, keeping an eye out for the missing keys. We were ready to go and still no keys. The “Still Small Voice” whispered again, “If you believed you were going swimming today, what would you be doing right now?” My answer this time was “going to the car”. Again, the knowing silence as if to say, “Why are you not going to the car?” We headed out of the house, and just as we stepped out the door, I heard a pick-up in the distance. I could not see a pick-up, but definitely heard one. We began walking toward the car which was parked just off the gravel road that went by our house. By the time we reached the car, the pick-up I heard was in plain sight. It was Don. He’d been on a parts run and was headed to the farm to continue his repair work. Because he saw us on the road, he stopped to say “Hi” and asked what we were up to. I told him we were on our way to swimming lessons, but I could not find my car keys. Did he have his keys? Of course he did, he gave them to us and went on to the farm as we went to swimming lessons.
Since then, I have often heard the whisper, “If you believed…what would you be doing right now?” How about you? If you believed the last instruction you were given, the last promise made to you by your Precious Heavenly Father, what would you be doing right now?
