Our clinical staff represents a variety of disciplines including social work, psychology, and family therapy. The entire clinical team is certified and/or licensed in their appropriate fields. Each clinician accepts different insurance plans and may or may not be accepting new clients.
Michael Welsh, PsyD
Executive Director

Dr. Welsh works with teens and adults with varying disorders, including depression, anxiety, anger management, adolescent and young adult issues & men's issues. He received his Master's in 2000 and his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Azusa Pacific University in 2003. Michael has been the Executive Director of Cornerstone since 2009.

Katie believes that relationships have the power to create pain and to create healing. Whatever may be going on in our lives we need to know that we are not alone. Many life events such as marriage, divorce, becoming a new parent, serious illness, relocation, or aging can create anxiety and distress in our lives and relationships. It is Katie's hope to create an environment together that invites curiosity, hope, connection, and healing. Katie completed her undergraduate degree from Kansas State University and received her Master of Science in Family Therapy from Friends University. Katie has been the Associate Director of Cornerstone since 2021.

Leslie Bissell, PsyD

Leslie believes that relationship is the key to lasting change. In her work with adults of all ages she desires to provide a safe place to ask the tough questions that impact our daily lives. As a clinical psychologist she enjoys working with those who have long-standing mental health issues, a desire to better understand how their family history or lived experiences are impacting current relationships, or those who just want to discover who they really are in this season of life. Specific areas of focus include depression, anxiety, life stage transitions, chronic mental health and/or physical health issues, bereavement, leadership development, burnout recovery and those who are experiencing a crisis of faith. Leslie is also a certified ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) trainer, passionate about helping those have wrestled with suicidal thoughts or are recovering from the loss of someone by suicide. Dr. Bissell graduated with her BA in psychology from the University of Akron then earned both her MA and PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College, Wheaton IL. She has experience working in a State Psychiatric Hospital Setting, Community Mental Health Setting, and with various faith based non-profits.

Rebekah works with individuals, couples, and children toward building a positive connection and repairing relational wounds. Rebekah believes that problems in relationships can be healed through understanding our negative relational experiences and changing our view of ourselves, our pain, and our relationships. Rebekah graduated with a Bachelor of science degree with majors in psychology and English from Central Christian College of Kansas. She then received her Master of science degree in family therapy from Friends University – KC. Rebekah has past experiences of working with infant and toddlers along with preschool-aged children. Rebekah also has experience in psychoeducation for parenting and relationship building with children. Rebekah uses an internal family systems and narrative approach when working with adult clients. She works to understand the different parts of an individual that impact how we show up in relationships and how each individual’s story develops. Sherri has a bachelor's degree from Kansas State University in Business Management and a master's degree from Friends University in Marriage and Family Therapy with training in mood, anxiety, adjustment, and relational disorders with specialized training in addictions counseling, eating disorders, and stress management for chronic illness. Sherri completed a clinical eating disorder training through the International Association of Eating Disorder Professions Foundation. When working with addictions, Sherri will first address any abuse or dependence on mood-altering substances and then move on to address any co-occurring disorders that may surface, including depression, anxiety, trauma, and shame. Andy McIlwee

Andy began his internship in the Spring of 2024. The belief that change is possible drives Brian’s approach to mental health. The process of change is challenging, and everyone can benefit from having someone partner with them. Brian works with teens, young adults, and adults who are experiencing life difficulties such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and identity issues. Through a combination of narrative and cognitive behavioral approaches, Brian helps others to see their abilities to thrive. Brian received his Doctor of Ministry, Master of Arts in Counseling, and Master of Divinity degrees from Lincoln Christian University. He is currently finishing a Ph.D. in Psychology at Grand Canyon University. Brian teaches courses in psychology, counseling, children, and family at Manhattan Christian College.

She earned her Master’s in Counseling from Lincoln Christian University in 1999 and finished her Master of Divinity in 2011. On a personal note, Nikki has a strong drive toward social justice and is an advocate for equal rights and raising awareness of racism.

He is passionate about building and protecting marriage and couple relationships and provides premarital counseling as well. He and his wife have worked with married and pre-married couples in their church for over 20 years. Stan also works with individuals who are dealing with anxiety, depression, anger, grief, pornography and sexual issues. He is a 2014 graduate from Friends University with a Master of Science in Family Therapy. He brings to counseling his problem solving skills from over 30 years of banking, as well as 40 years of marriage and family raising. Stan works to help clients move toward healing, acceptance, change, reconciliation, grace, and forgiveness of self and others. He is a Focus on the Family approved counselor.

Karla runs the clerical team. She predominantly takes care of bookkeeping and payroll, orders supplies, and credentialing providers. She also helps with patient access to the patient portal, and deals with insurance claims and denials.

Brenda greets patients as they check in for appointments. She also enters and updates patient’s information, makes appointments, collects payments, answers billing questions, manages patient statements, and keeps track of insurance authorizations.

Tom was born and raised in Manhattan, Kansas. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Kansas in Economics and has worked for Steel & Pipe Supply Company for 42 years, including working as the Human Resource Manager from 1987 to the present. Tom has been married for 40 years to Suzanne, and they have three children and six grandchildren.

Kara works for Kansas State College of Veterinary Medicine. They have two grown boys and the joy of a grandson.
